Reports in the European cycling media have suggested Jonas Vingegaard wants to ride Giro d'Italia next season and has already informed his Visma-Lease a Bike team he would like to competed in the Italian Grand Tour.
Both Gazzetta dello Sport, which is owned by Giro owners RCS, and Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws have reported a decision to tackle the Giro - which would likely be followed by a Tour ride - was being mulled by the Dane and his team.
Vingegaard has never ridden the race before, though has been successful in Italy, including winning Tirreno-Adriatico (2.UWT) earlier this year and Coppi e Bartali (2.1) in 2021.
He crashed at Itzulia Basque Country (2.UWT) back in April, suffering fractured ribs and a punctured lung. While he returned to racing just in time for a Tour de France ride, he was 2nd overall behind Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates).
Vingegaard was expected to put all his focus next year towards building for the Tour, but that could include an appearance at the Giro according to the European media.
"Jonas Vingegaard is interested in Giro d'Italia 2025 participation," reported Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Ciro Scognamiglio. "The option will be studied this autumn with Visma-Lease a Bike according to our sources."
Het Laatste Nieuws reported: "The Danish leader of Visma-Lease a Bike has reportedly indicated internally that he would like to ride the Giro.
"So far, Vingegaard has ridden the Tour four times - twice a winner and twice a second - plus the Vuelta twice. His team will have to analyse in the coming months whether the Giro with Vingegaard fits into their 'plan'."
However, Visma-Lease a Bike communications manager, Sander Kleikers, told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet no plans had been fixed yet for next year.
He said the reports in the media had not originated from Visma-Lease a Bike, saying: "I really don't know where it comes from. It certainly does not come from our team."
