Remember this Giro rider's arm was broken and twisted? He just posted his X-rays. Ouch!

This image of Daniele Colli's twisted arm at the end of  the Giro stage 6 last week was broadcast live on TV. He has posted his X-rays on Instagram.

When a group of riders hit the deck hard in the sprint finish that ended stage 6 of the Giro last week, the media's attention was mainly on the dislocation of race leader Alberto Contador's shoulder.

The Tinkoff-Saxo rider is still leading the race after today's stage 14 time trial.

But for one of the crash victims of stage 6, the ending was not quite as pleasant.

The crash occurred as the field charged for the line in the bunch sprint that decided the 183km stage 6 from Montecatini Terme to Castiglione Della Pescaia.

Daniele Colli (Nippo-Vini Fantini) was moving up on the left when he appeared to collide with a long camera lens being held out by a spectator leaning over the crowd control barriers.

He hit the deck very hard and awkwardly while sprinting flat out.

Images of his arm broken and twisted and apparently planted to the ground were broadcast live all over the world.

He has since undergone surgery to a compact fracture of the humerus and has finally been released from hospital.

The X-rays below show the extent of the damage and how having it pinned brought it into line. Hopefully the Italian’s body will do the rest.

He is to take legal action against the fan with the camera; an Italian man who owns a photography shop.

Nasty, nasty stuff.

Colli was forced to stay in hospital for five days.

He clearly retained his sense of humour; always half the battle.
