Remco Evenepoel has said his helmet saved him from serious injury after a high speed crash at the Tour of Norway.
The Belgian 19-year-old fell hard in the final kilometre. And while he looked a bit dazed and took some time to gather himself, he finished the stage.
Later he showed off the damage to his crash hat, below, saying it had saved him from a potentially serious situation.
The opening stage Evenepoel crashed on yesterday was won
by Team Sunweb’s Cees Bol in a bunch sprint.
Today’s stage 2 was claimed by Remco Evenepoel’s
Deceuninck-QuickStep’s team mate Álvaro José Hodeg.
With four stages remaining Bol leads overall but is equal
on time with Hodeg.
Ryan Mullen is the only Irish rider in the race, finishing 104th at 33 seconds on stage 1.
The Trek-Segafredo man was 34th today on the second stage, on the same time as the winner.
