Ready for the new season? Score at least three here or you’re in for a hiding

The season is almost upon us again folks and we hope you’re as excited about the races as we are about reporting on them.

We know you’ve logged thousands of miles this winter and went through half a dozen chains.

You've also washed your bike more times than you care to remember and spent Greek national debt sums of money on flashy gear.

If you can answer 'yes' to three or more, you’re really ready to rock. (Photo: Sean Rowe)

1. You’ve your legs shaved already… since October

Actually, you never let stubble grow in the months since the last race of 2014.

Any follicle that managed to escape the razor’s blade is treated mercilessly.

2. You’ve a new bike bought for the season

Ah, that old S-Works wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. You needed a Dogma and we support you 100 per cent.

In fact, you bought two Dogma’s with matching power meters like the Sky boys.

3. You’ve got your racing licence

This one will send alarm bells ringing in the ears of those who are reading this and going, ‘Oh sh*t!’

Prepared readers will have theirs neatly stashed in their wallet and will be chomping at the bit from around now to sign on in Monasterevin on Sunday.

4. You’re travelling to the race the night before

This year, you vow to do things better; more efficiently, the correct way. No half chances. Professional attitude at all times.

You’re not going to jeopardise a breakdown on the way to the race on Sunday morning.

So you’ll get yourself a nice B&B in the town Saturday night and have the place warned well in advance about your dietary requirements.

It matters not a jot that you live within an hour’s drive. We respect your preparation.

5. You’ve already checked the weather for this weekend

You already know there’ll be a crosswind after 10km.

You’ve the best rain jacket bought because there are showers forecast for the afternoon.

You’re on accuweather every hour, studying the impending climatic conditions as closely as the staff in Met Eireann.

You’re planning to start as you mean to go on; nothing left to chance.

But not even the most brutal snowy conditions will derail your plans for the first races of the year.
