It was a fantastic year for Irish cycling, with some superb racing on home roads and our best riders also flying the flag very impressively around the globe.

It’s not easy picking out the best international result of the year by the Irish but we think you folks know you’re cycling and you’ll rank them properly.

We’ve given you 10 options and while there were some great results abroad by juniors, U23s and Masters riders; we’ve kept the options to elite events only.

And while the Rás is a UCI event, we have always covered it from a domestic rider perspective. So for the purposes of these polls we have decided to classify it as a domestic event, as we have with the national championships.

Among the nominees is Greg Callaghan; the Irishman retaining his Emerald Enduro title on home soil in May having also won the same round of the Enduro World Series 12 months earlier.

Our paracyclists also did us proud this year, with two golds among the medals at the Rio Paralympics; by Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal in the road TT and Eoghan Clifford in his TT.

Sam Bennett took a number of victories during the season but his stage win in the Critérium International was perhaps the best known event he claimed.

Nicolas Roche went close to winning a stage and wrapping up the overall at the Tour de Yorkshire but had to settle for 2nd on both counts; still a super result after some great riding.
