Due to a crash in the A4 race of the Munster Road Race Championships in Whitechurch, Cork, the organisers Blarney CC have taken the decision to postpone to another date all of the races due to have taken place this afternoon, Sunday.
The A4's, who started at 12.10pm and were due to do five laps of the 11 kilometre circuit, were forced to call a halt to the race after several riders were injured in a crash.
It is not known exactly how many riders came down in the incident or how badly hurt they are.
However, there were a number of riders injured who required medical attention from paramedics at the scene. Both ambulances that were working at the race were used to transport the injured riders to hospital and as the vehicles were not back when the remaining races were due to get underway it was decided the racing could not go ahead.
The postponed races include the U16 event as well as the A3, and the combined A1/A2 title races.
Conditions were poor today in the rain and with a long descent followed by a sharp right turn it would seem the correct decision was made by the Blarney CC organiser’s to halt the racing in the absence of on-site ambulances.
We'll bring you more on this as soon as we have it. It’s anticipated the racing will be rescheduled to a later date in the weeks ahead.
