Quality field assembled for new extended Ballinrobe Three Day

The Ballinrobe Three-Day is down for decision this weekend and if the provisional start-list is anything to go by, a great race is in store. The Ballinrobe Three-Day is down for decision this May Bank Holiday Weekend with a strong field heading west for what looks like a really exciting event.

Brought forward by a few months from its usual slot in August, organisers Western Lakes CC felt they could promote a race that would attract a very strong peloton in advance of the An Post Rás in a matter of weeks.

And they look to have gotten things spot on with 100 riders registered.

Entries closed last night and we can confirm the start-list as of now, see below.

You’ll see a right spread of teams from across the country from A1, A2, A3 and women so a cracking event is in store.

A cursory glance at those heading to Mayo shows Strata3-VeloRevolution mean business with an eight-man team while Nenagh CC, Mego RAW Cycles racing team and Westport Covey Wheelers are also travelling in force.

Racing gets underway on Saturday at 2pm with a 116-kilometre stage which is pretty much flat all day except for two short ramps which will be designated KOH primes.

Stage 2 on Sunday, from 12 noon,  is where the roads start to rise and this 120-kilometre stage will take in the scenic views of Lough Mask on an out-and-back course.

Stage 3 on Monday, at 120 kilometres, is the hardest stage and will see the rider tackle some really challenging roads.

The real pinch here comes with a serious climb after 73 kilometres.

As well as the yellow jersey for the overall winner there’s also the 'Kieran MacMahon sprints jersey' on offer.

There are five primes over the three stages and these come in the first half of each stage, meaning it should make for some very lively racing.

There are also points for the sprints jersey on the finish line for the first three.

There is also a KOH jersey on offer with eight climbs over the three stages.

On stage 1 there are two cat 3 ramps. On stage two there are two cat 1s and on Monday two cat 3s, a cat 1 and a cat 2.

There is also prize money for the best-placed A2, A3, woman and master at the end of the race as well as the best team and also €50 for the most aggressive rider on each stage.
