The early season action has been furious so far this year
We’ve put together full details here of the road races for the weekend ahead, with the Des Hanlon Memorial being the key race down for decision. While there are fewer road races around the country this weekend, the Des Hanlon in Carlow on Sunday is arguably the first truly national race of the year.

Des Hanlon Memorial, Carlow Road CC
While some of the racing in the early weeks of the season has been very entertaining and hard fought, nobody would disagree that the Des Hanlon Memorial in Carlow on Sunday is the first truly national one day race of the year.
It’s certainly the first race where all of those riders who’ve proven to be best in the regions in the early part of the season come up against each other. The fact this is the only road race in the Republic on Sunday ensures it will again be a massive race this year.
Promoted by Carlow Road CC, there are three races down for decision, with sign on at Eire Og GAA Club, Iona Drive, and racing starting from 12 noon.
The main event A1/A2 race is first off at 12 noon and is 150km. The second race is off at 12.10pm and is from A3s only, taking in 100km. The third race, for A4s only, starts at 12.15pm and is 60km.
