Popular racing fixtures set for Stamullen, Co Meath, now cancelled

The road races that had been set for Stamullen, Co Meath, the weekend after Easter have been cancelled.

Planned for Saturday and Sunday April 7th and 8th, the races were due to be promoted by Stamullen RC.

At the centre of that club, of course, for many years has been Gaybo and Kay Howard. Sadly Gaybo lost his life in an accident last month.

As a result it has been decided the racing will not go ahead this year; an understandable decision.

Last year senior and youth racing was held on both days; no fewer than seven races contested on Sunday.

The Howards have been instrumental in creating a great event. But undoubtedly when the time is right all involved will get the races back on the road again.

While such a festival of racing over two days will be missed from the April calendar, the Cycleways Cup will take place in nearby Navan.

It had been scheduled to take place on the opening weekend of the season. However, snowy conditions saw all races cancelled.

And now it has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 8th. It means anyone who had been planning to race in Stamullen can head for Navan instead.
