Having always proven a very popular and hard fought schedule of fixtures early season, the Lucan GP is being moved back to the end of the coming road racing campaign.
The races – which are held in Summerhill, Co Meath, and are promoted by Lucan CRC - were scheduled to be held on March 18th.
However, as part of Cycling Ireland’s efforts to redistribute races away from the packed early season period and towards later in the campaign when racing has diminished over the years, the race will now be held on September 16th.
The club announced the changed this morning, Thursday, in a statement.
"There has been a lot of discussion recently about rebalancing the road racing calendar and scheduling more events in the later part of the season
"In consultation and with approval from Cycling Ireland and Cycling Leinster LCRC have decided to reschedule the Lucan GP.
"The race will move from the previously advertised date of March 18th to September 16th.
"The Cycling Ireland online calendar has been updated to reflect the change of date. At this stage all other event details including location and start time remain the same.
"There are no other road race events in the country that day so we hope the event will be as well supported as in previous editions and that we can run a full programme of races for all categories.
"Further details will be issued nearer the event date."
