Police helicopter in cyclist close pass crackdown

This police helicopter has been hovering in the skies above these roads and tracking drivers as they pass cyclists.
We may still be waiting in Ireland for the promised new close-passing laws, but they move a bit quicker in Spain it seems.
Not only have the authorities there introduced close-passing laws, ensuring drivers must leave 1.5 metres when passing cyclists, they actually enforce them.
The Spanish police have officers dressed as cyclists riding around undercover waiting to catch close-passers.
Police officers in cars and on motorbikes also enforce the rules, and now even the Guardia Civil’s helicopter is getting in on the act.
Not only are they checking the roads beneath to ensure drivers pass groups of cyclists at a safe distance, they’re also recording it and releasing the footage online.
With videos like this one - recorded just over a month ago - widely circulated in Spain, a deterrent is being created and publicised all the time.
