Video shows Poels urge Froome "don't take risks" just before crash

Wout Poels urges Chris Froome not to take risks as he takes his hands off the bars to put on a jacket. However, it's a move cyclists make all the time.

ITV News has broadcast footage of Wout Poels urging Team
Ineos team mate Chris Froome not to take risks shortly before his bad crash
last Wednesday.

The duo was doing a recon ride of the stage 4 Dauphine TT
course when Froome crashed at high speed.

He took his hands off the bars to blow his nose when a
gust of wind caught the front of his bike.

Froome has been left with a broken femur and elbow as
well as broken ribs and a fracture to his chest bone and neck.

In the footage, below, Froome takes his hands off the
bars to put on a jacket after commenting on the wind at that stretch of the
course.

Poels tells him there is no need to take risks, but
Froome assures him he’s OK. A little further up the road – and not featured in
the footage – Froome crashed.

Thankfully, Froome has been able to take to social media to post a photo of himself as well as releasing a statement about the crash and thanking the medical staff in France for their help.
