Island Wheelers has made the difficult decision to cancel the PJ Logan Cup - the race for C1 riders - this weekend due to a lack of entries, despite the €500 prize that was on offer for the winner.
However, the C2 Hugo Loughran GP and the C3 Eddie Polin Memorial Cup will go ahead as planned. To stress, only one of the three races planned for Sunday has been cancelled, with the C2 and C3 races still going ahead.
The host club, which always puts on great racing, said on Wednesday morning just three riders had entered the C1 race. And, unfortunately, the situation has not improved much since then.
As a result, and with entries for all three races now closed, Island Wheelers said it had no choice but to make the difficult decision of cancelling the C1 PJ Logan Cup.
"Despite repeated efforts to encourage C1 entries, we haven’t exceeded the number of competitors that would be fitting of a race of this stature," the club said in a brief statement on social media.
"As a club, we must take in too consideration the resources and volunteers required to make this race happen. We also need to be mindful off our generous sponsor, the Logan family, and the incredible amount of £500 1st prize.
"(We) are disappointed that there is not enough interest to run our PJ Logan Cup. Unfortunately, as this is a National League event, we are unable to combine the categories.
"Therefore we have been left with the tough decision to cancel this year’s PJ Logan Cup race. Refunds will be issued as soon as possible."
The club confirmed the C2 and C3 races will go ahead as planned on Sunday morning.
