Tom Pidcock has signed a five-year
contract with Ineos Grenadiers, meaning he now has the longest deal in place in
pro cycling, equal with Tadej Pogačar.
Both riders will stay with their teams –
Pogačar with UAE Team Emirates – until the end of 2027.
While it emerged earlier this year
Pidcock was out of contract – meaning no new deal had been put in place beyond
the end of this year – he was always expected to extend with Ineos Grenadiers.
News that he has reached a new five-year agreement with the British squad emerged today, with both team and rider saying they were very pleased with the arrangement.
Pidcock is a star of road racing already
and is also the Olympic MTB champion and world cyclocross champion. Ineos
Grenadiers team boss, Dave Brailsford, said the length of the deal would allow
Pidcock and the team achieve a range of goals across all disciplines.
Pidcock (22) said Ineos Grenadiers was the right team for him and had already become his home, adding he had grown up dreaming of joining the team.
“To
have the trust of the team and Ineos is an amazing feeling,” he said. “With the
quality of staff and riders I’ve met and raced alongside, it’s been clear since
day one that there’s no better team in which to spend the next five years of my
career.
“Ineos Grenadiers have backed me all the way, across every discipline I’ve raced in. I couldn’t have asked for better support leading up to my mountain-bike Olympic gold and cyclocross world title. For my future goals - chasing monuments, world titles, and one day a Grand Tour – this is definitely the best place to be.”
