Dublin Fire Brigade has published a set of photos of a crash in Dublin involving a cyclist and a taxi. But it seems to have a strange take on the incident.
Dublin Fire Brigade has shared these photos via its Twitter account following a collision between a taxi and a cyclist on a Dublin Bike in the city yesterday.
The incident occurred on Mount St in the south inner city just before lunchtime.
According to the fire brigade: "A cyclist had a lucky escape in the city centre after a collision with a car.
"They were thrown clear from the collision suffering a nasty leg injury, but could of been so much worse. Remember to always wear a helmet."
The bike was crushed under the vehicle as the photos clear show.
And while any safety message from Dublin Fire Brigade is a welcome one, it seemed a little odd to us that the default reaction to this incident was that cyclists need to up their game with safety kit.
Helmets are not a legal requirement in Ireland and because of that they are not supplied as part of the Dublin Bike scheme.
While they are always advisable, it seems odd the fire brigade has no advice for motorists after this incident - even a simple "beware of the increased number of cyclists around the city".
Let us know what you think.
Are they sending out a muddled message? Why is it always cyclists who need to act to make the roads safer?
