Peter Sagan may have been in a news recently for an unpleasant incident with the police in Monaco but now he's gotten himself into a very different roadside incident - stopping to rescue a cyclist by the roadside.

Sagan was out training with a number of other pro riders when their group was waved down by Willie Mccoll, a leisure cyclist from Scotland who had suffered multiple punctures on his ride in Gran Canaria.

Mccoll said he thought Sagan and his mates were a "bunch of kids" and so having already used hos two spare tubes he asked them for help. While Mccoll didn't recognise the riders, he soon realised it was Peter Sagan fixing his puncture and getting him moving again.

Mccoll is on a cycling trip to Gran Canaria and had separated for a time from his training partner, only to suffer his third puncture of the dat.

“Having run out of lifelines (spare tubes) after puncture number
three, I was dependent on the goodwill of passing cyclists,” he said.

“I signaled to a bunch of ‘young kids’, who without hesitation
came to my aid, provided a tube and set about getting me going again,” he added
and while the riders were dressed in pro kit, he didn’t realise they were pro
riders.

“They seemed very ‘with it’, so I asked the Alpecin guy (Michael)
if he was with the team: ‘Yes, and look there is Peter Sagan’.

“So, there I was, a 63-year-old Scot with a team of domestiques
assisting me, all pros from three different teams, and possibly the most famous
guy in cycling. I expressed huge gratitude- one of them just said simply ‘we’ve
all been there’ – very, very nice.”

It turns out Sagan was training with Michael Gogl and two other pro riders; one from his own TotalEnergies team and another dressed in Bora-hansgrohe kit.
