Peter Sagan has contracted Covid-19 again, having already come down with the virus last year.

"My brother Juraj and I took Covid-19 tests which, unfortunately, came out positive," Sagan said in a short statement on Tuesday evening.

"We have symptoms related to the virus and we are following the corresponding guidance set by the relevant authorities. I'll keep you posted."

The three-time world champion last February contracted the virus, along with some of his team mates while they were at a private training camp at Gran Canaria.

His then team Bora-hansgrohe said Sagan, his brother Juraj and their team mate Erik Baška had been tested several times and had tested positive each time and that all three had symptoms.

The three riders were forced to isolate at their Gran Canaria base, though Sagan soon recovered and started his season four weeks later at Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy.

Sagan has since left Bora-hansgrohe after the expiry of his contract and is now signed for Total Energies on a two-year contract.

More to come.
