Peter Sagan and two of his Bora-hansgrohe team mates have fallen ill with Covid-19 at a private training camp they had gone on to Gran Canaria.

The team said Sagan, his brother Juraj and their team mate Erik Baška had been tested several times and had tested positive each time and that all three had symptoms.

The three riders were now isolating at their Gran Canaria base, with the illness hitting Sagan after a 2020 season in which he rode very well but achieved relatively little success by his own standards.

His only win came on stage 10 of Giro d'Italia, though that was an epic ride - video below.

"On January 29th we had a PCR test done in a local laboratory in order to be able to fly back home. Unfortunately, the results weren't what we would have hoped for and all three of us tested positive for Covid-19.

"We are all feeling well but, obviously, since that day, we have remained in quarantine," said, adding his team have been very support and that he and his brother and Baska never felt alone.

"We are kept under continuous remote supervision and will remain here for as long as required. Hopefully, our next test results will be negative so that we can resume our normal training schedule as soon as possible."

Bora-hansgrohe’s team of medical Dr Christopher Edler confirmed all three riders were experiencing symptoms of the virus but added those symptoms were "general and mild".
