Orwell’s Whiting takes Leinster Three-Day opener; McCabe in yellow

Daniel Whiting has followed up his win at the Dungarvan GP in Co Waterford at the weekend with victory in the first round of the Leinster Three Day last night, Monday.

The Orwell Wheelers man triumphed in Donore ahead of Aidan Wall of Navan Road Club with Geoff Sheehan of South Dublin CC in third.

Will McCabe of Eurocycles was fourth and because he was first over the line of those riders who signed on last night for all three stages, he takes the yellow jersey into tonight’s second stage in Mondello Park.

The Leinster Three Day can be ridden as three separate one-day races. Alternatively riders can sign on in advance for all three stages and qualify for the general classification over the three nights. The general classification is run on a points basis.
