Olympian Mia Griffin lands top tier three-year contract in World Tour

Mia Griffin has had a fantastic couple of years, making the OIympic Games, riding the Tour de France and collecting results on the road and now she very much moves up a gear

Mia Griffin (Roland Le Dévoluy) has already ridden at World Tour level for two periods in her career but now the Irish track and road international is really moving up a gear after landing a deal with World Tour team Picnic PostNL.

The Kilkenny woman, who has just taken two podium finishes at the Tour of Chongming Island World Tour stage race in China, will ride for the Dutch team for the next three seasons.

That's a contract that offers her real stability, and potential for development, in one of the most professional environments women's cycling has to offer. And the team has today set out clear plans for her over the next three years, during which it intends to help her grow into a stop sprinter.

“Mia joins us from a strong track background and the ambition to make it as a full-time road sprinter," said Team Picnic PostNL head coach Rudi Kemna, who has already sung the praises of its men's team new signing, Dillon Corkery.

"Together we’re starting a project that’s exciting; the goal is for her to become a dedicated sprint finisher in the future, capable of competing for podiums in the biggest races.

"She has already shown that she can challenge the best in the world. What she needs now is time, structure, and race experience, and we’ll give her that.

"Next season she’ll get plenty of sprint opportunities, especially in the pure fast-finisher races. She fits our way of working perfectly: driven, open to learning, and ready to take the next step.”
