Having taken the junior road race and TT Irish titles less than 12 months ago, Michael O'Loughlin took 3rd in the elite race in Kilcullen today, Sunday, with only WorldTour riders beating him.
His 3rd place on the day was an excellent result and he also claimed the U23 title; a not insignificant result when you consider he was competing with names like Ryan Mullen, Eddie Dunbar, Daire Feeley, and Mark Downey.
Now riding for Team Wiggins, O'Loughlin's performance today looked like a major step forward in his career, especially since he had university exams to contend with just a couple of months ago.

The Carrick-on-Suir teenager was also 4th in the TT last Thursday night, behind Roche, Dunbar and Mullen.
He said he was very pleased with how he rode today and that the company he was with - including winner Roche of Team Sky and runner-up Brammeier of Dimension Data - spurred him on.
But while those names may motivate him, he certainly wasn't intimated.
And speaking to Shane Stokes, below, looks ahead to a packed second half of the season, with plenty of good races in Europe with Team Wiggins and hopefully the European Championships and World Championships with Ireland.
