Oisin O’Callaghan proved to be a sensation in his junior days in the downhill discipline and while his team of the last two years, The YT Mob, has stopped for now, the Irish teenager is continuing with the brand that backed that team.

O’Callaghan, the junior world champion in 2020 and a World Cup winner, is set to be sponsored and supported by YT Industries.

The bike brand was born in Germany and sells direct to consumer with distribution channels in Europe, USA, South America, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Asia and Africa.

YT Industries is mow starting its own racing team for this year, which O’Callaghan will be part of. While the team has three riders on its books, O’Callaghan effectively is the team.

The other riders and the staff will support O'Callaghan's development from leading junior over the last two years towards establishing himself in the top tier of elite racing globally.

One of the other riders in the team is Erik Irmisch, an established downhill racer from Germany who is also the main bike tester for TY Industries and tester for SRAM. Irmisch will captain the racing team and O’Callaghan will learn from his knowledge and experience in the year ahead.

While O’Callaghan is still just 18 years old, the Limerick athlete has now finished in school and is a professional downhill rider. He's been training twice a day over the winter in his home gym and on the Ballyhoura trails on his doorstep.

He will base his 2022 season around the World Cup calendar and says he's really looking forward to working with YT and Irmisch in the year ahead.

“We have built a great relationship with the folks at YT, which I value a lot,” said O’Callaghan, known as The Double O in the downhill world.

“I will be joining a race program led by Erik Irmisch. Irm has a proven track record of running a team successfully, loads of race and testing experience being part of YT’s R&D team, and is an all-round good guy, that I trust.

“I get on very well with the TUES and the bike has seen its fair share of success too. I look forward to racing the World Cup this year and to concentrating on growing into becoming a consistent elite rider.”
