Irish professional Nicolas Roche will take part in a unique fundraiser on Thursday, August 14th when he will race against Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen on a Dermot Weld trained horse at Leopardstown race course to raise money for the Nicolas Roche Performance Team.
The 'Horse Power Vs Pedal Power' evening is expected to draw a huge crowd and Roche will be on hand for a questions and answers session as well as photographs and autographs.
Given the importance of the Nicolas Roche Performance Team to developing the country's up and coming riders, Roche said he hopes for a good turnout.
"I’m look forward to seeing everyone there,” he said.
“It promises to be a great night and funds raised will help the team going forward into the 2015 season. I also have to try to figure out how to beat one of Ireland's top Jockeys and trainers and hopefully I come out of the Tour de France in top shape.”
Head of operations at Leopardstown, Pat Keogh said he was delighted to host such unique event, especially with such a quality horse from a top stable taking on the power of one of Ireland’s best ever cyclists.
"When Nicholas issued the challenge to compete against a horse at Leopardstown we had to make sure that racing put up its best,” he said.
“It will be great to see champions from different sports compete and will add an additional bit of spice to the Bulmers Live at Leopardstown finale on the day."
After the main event, there will be a three-course meal and entertainment from top Irish band 'The Charlatans'.
Tickets are available at €110 per person or €1000 for a table of 10.
