There may be no news just yet on where Nicolas Roche will be riding next season but his Team Sunweb squad has been very busy in the transfer market.
Roche had a
difficult season last year when he rode the Giro and abandoned it;
uncharacteristically being forced out of a Grand Tour.
However, this
season he has looked much stronger and repeatedly went on the attack at the
Tour de France.
His Team Sunweb
squad has been undergoing a testing time of late with its leader Tom Dumoulin
enduring a nightmare season.
The Dutch rider went into the Giro d’Italia as one of the general classification favourites but crashed out.

A knee injury
sustained during that fall on stage 4 has resulted in a complicated recovery
that kept him out of the Tour de France and means he also won’t ride the
Vuelta.
Rumours have
abound that Dumoulin was looking to leave Team Sunweb and join Jumbo-Visma,
though they have so far come to nothing.
However, while
that Dumoulin issue has limped on, Team Sunweb has been adding to its roster.
Today it
confirmed Belgian Tiesj Benoot is joining on a two-year deal from Lotto-Soudal,
with whom he won Strade Bianche last year.
Team Sunweb has
also signed a number of other riders from development and WorldTour teams.
Those new
signings include: Nico Denz (AG2R La Mondiale), Jasha Sütterlin (Movistar
Team), Thymen Arensman (SEG Racing Academy), Mark Donovan (Team Wiggins Le
Col), Alberto Dainese (SEG Racing Academy).
The squad has
also extended the contracts of Michael Matthews and Søren Kragh Andersen; both
to the end of 2021.
Roche signed for
Team Sunweb last year on a one-year deal after two years with BMC Racing. We’ll
bring you news of his plans for next year when we have them.
