The UCI has added new cyclocross races to the international calendar, which are set to he held in Ireland in October.
News of the races follows disappointment that the promised Irish round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup was not included in the 2021-2022 World Cup schedule when it was recently published.
However, while the racing now planned for Ireland in October will not be a World Cup race, and will instead have C2 status, the addition of Ireland to the international calendar is still a positive.
And the fact the races are nine months from now means they should not be impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the vaccine roll-out expected to be completed by that point.
The 'Verge Cross Clonmel' is scheduled to take place in the Co Tipperary town on Sunday, October 17th. UCI-ranked racing is planned for elite men and women and also male and female juniors.
The UCI has several categories of cyclocross racing, starting with the World Championships (CM). This is followed by World Cups (CDM). Then comes class 1 (C1) and class 2 (C2).
The UCI Bioracer-Atlassian International Cyclocross events held in Belfast in 2018 were also C2 category.
We'll bring you more information about the 'Verge Cross Clonmel' when we have it.
