The road racing season may have been brought to an abrupt end just one week after it started back in March, but thankfully action is just about to resume, with a new TT league in Limerick believed to be the first race after lock-down.
The Newcastle West Wheelers TT League
gets underway this Tuesday, June 30th, and will run for the next three weeks.
The opening race is a 10 mile test, with a 20 mile TT the following Tuesday, July 7th, and a hilly 20 miler being run as the third race on Tuesday, July 14th.
The event is open to anyone within one hour's travel time of Newcastle West; a lose enough definition designed to keep the league relatively local.
Organiser Liam Collins has told
stickybottle the field will be limited to 40 riders, which is just one of a
series of safety protocols being put in place to ensure rider safety as the
sport slowly emerges from the Covid19 lock-down restrictions.
Anyone interested in riding next Tuesday - or riding the second and third races in the short league - can contact Liam Collins on [email protected]. If you want to ride the first race, you must register by midnight tonight, Sunday.
The TT circuits are all close to
Newcastle West, where the TT will start. There is a road bike category within
the event and the Masters category will be run on a handicap basis.
The league is pre-entry only and riders
will be allotted specific start times. Riders will be
asked not to turn up more than 5 minutes ahead of their allotted start time.
Start times will be emailed or texted to
all riders at least two days before each round. Riders will start with one foot
on the ground, they will not be held by a starter.
After finishing, riders are asked to
leave the area and return home. Instead, results will be emailed to each rider
on the evening on the event.
Participants are asked not to approach
the time keepers and anyone approaching a time keeper will incur a five-minute
penalty.
Stewards will wear face masks and gloves
and riders are asked to ride to the start or to travel alone if they are coming
by car.
