Always a fantastic summer promotion in Co Wexford, the Eddie Tobin Memorial scheduled for Sunday is off.
Promoter Slaney Cycling Club has said it will consult with Cycling Ireland with a view to running the races at a later date this season.
One important point to note is that the underage races planned for Davidstown tomorrow are unaffected by the cancellation.
It means the U16, U14 and U12 events go ahead as planned.
The club last night announced news of the postponement of the senior events in a statement.
It said the roads on the course had been resurfaced and the level of loose chippings now on the Bunclody circuit made it unsafe for racing.
The club said it was very grateful to all of those who had volunteered to make the racing possible but was left with no option but to call off the event.
“A significant part of the race route was resurfaced this Tuesday evening just passed,” the club said.
“That resulted in excessive loose chippings remaining on the surface, which in some areas are to a depth of several centimetres.
“Having driven and walked the section last night and again this evening we feel it poses an unacceptable safety risk especially given the high speed section of the circuit that approaches it.
“The club identified an alternative route with a diversion off and back on to the shortened course.
"But this route too poses safety issues which could not be properly risk assessed in such a short time frame.
"We are disappointed to have to cancel the race however we feel this is the best course of action in the interest of rider and public safety.
“We would like to thank all the riders and officials who have supported the event previously and we hope to see you back again soon.”
