New Rás na mBan festival is calling you - here's what you can do

Rás na mBan may have long established itself as Irish cycling's biggest race for female riders - with a top-flight domestic and international field - but the organisers are going a step further this year. And now they need your help.

With a TT stage in the morning on the final day of action and a criterium later in the day - both in Kilkenny - the timing of those two races affords an opportunity to include cycling fans, and the general public, in the closing day of racing, on Sunday, September 11th.

And so under race director, Valerie Considine, the organisers are holding a new event on that final day, Féile Rás na mBan. And they are looking for volunteers to help out.

The new event is essentially a programme of activities taking place at The Parade, Kilkenny Castle, with a full festival schedule from 10am to 2pm on the day.

The activities, open to all, include:

  • Free bike check and maintenance tips
  • Free learn to cycle for kids to get going in a fun environment
  • The 2km criterium circuit will be open to members of the public to have a "slow roll" around
  • A more advanced ride around the circuit - in groups and with coaching
  • Power challenge, to see how much power you can generate on a WattBike and how you compare to others
  • Drumming workshop with 'Rhythm Makers' group
  • Upcycle bike parts with Vicki Yarn
  • St Patrick’s Brass and Reed Band

While all of these events will be taking place, volunteers are needed to help out. So why not step up and have a great day in Kilkenny; watching the racing, savouring the atmosphere and bringing cycling to the people.
