A new series of Cycling Ireland one-day classics is set to get underway tomorrow, with a format designed to suit riders of all levels and abilities.
The races, the first of which takes place from 10am
tomorrow, will feature handicap events and points racing.
The handicap racing will involve four categories of
riders – A, B, C and D – with the D riders the limit group, the A cyclists the
scratch group and the B and C groups will set off at intervals in between them.
That format should make the racing very competitive, with
the scratch riders now forced to ride to get on terms with the groups ahead
before they can compete for victory.
“The points race format has also proven popular as riders
battle for points at designated sprints through the course. Double points are
on offer at the finish line,” Cycling Ireland said of the second format of
racing.

The national governing body has also reminded riders that
its group workouts were continuing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, led by rider
and cycling coach Matteo Cigala.
