A new cycling show will air once a month for eight months next year, featuring all forms of competitive cycling from the home scene.
The show will be broadcast on TG4 but will be in English. It will be produced by InForm Sports Media, which is owned by Eurosport commentator Declan Quigley and has already produced TV shows on the National Championships and Rás na mBan.
The new show is a joint effort by Cycling Ireland and TG4 and will be called the Cycling Ireland Magazine Show. The national governing body announced the new show in a statement today.
It was unclear how much of the budget, if any, Cycling Ireland will be expected to meet for the eight shows. It is the latest venture between the national governing body and TG4, while Cycling Ireland has also teamed up with the Pundit Arena website and the Irish Independent's website to broadcast track racing in recent years.
The national championship races, across various disciplines, and the National Road Series will feature in the eight programmes, among other events.
Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, TG4 Head of Sport, said the channel was "really looking forward to the new series and giving sports fans the opportunity to see the diversity and incredible talent within Irish cycling".
"Whether it is for competition, leisure or active travel, cycling has exploded in popularly, so we are delighted to be working with Cycling Ireland to showcase the sport on national television,” he added.
Marketing and communications manager at Cycling Ireland, Scott Graham, said the series would feature "road racing to downhill mountain biking and everything in between".
"We have some of Ireland’s most successful sports stars who race the length and breadth of Ireland and represent us proudly on the world stage both on road and off," he said.
"We look forward to bringing their endeavours to a new audience and inspiring even more people to get on their bikes. TG4 offers a fantastic platform for Cycling Ireland’s Magazine Show being free-to-air and achieving viewership figures of 3.66 million people in 2020.”
