Sean tragically lost his life in May, 2019, a result of injuries he sustained while racing in Co Wexford. He was critically ill in hospital for a number of days and despite efforts to save him he passed away.

Drogheda Wheelers had planned to run the races to honour Sean over the last two years but when the pandemic forced events to be canceled, those plans were put on hold. While a race was held virtually, this year's races will be the first on the roads to honour his memory and celebrate his life.
