New anti-doping violation charges against ex Team Sky, British Cycling doctor

Dr Richard Freeman, who previously worked with Team Sky and British Cycling, faces two new allegations of anti doping rules violations

Richard Freeman, the doctor who formerly worked with both British Cycling and Team Sky, faces two new anti doping rule violation charges brought by UK Anti Doping, the BBC has reported.

Dr Freeman is already before a General Medical Council
fitness to practice hearing in Britain, where he vehemently denies the
allegation he ordered a testosterone product to dope an athlete.

However, before that process has concluded, UK Anti Doping has accused Dr Freeman of two anti doping violations, according to the BBC.

The British broadcaster has reported Dr Freeman faces a
charge of ‘possession of a prohibited substance’ and ‘tampering or attempted
tampering with any part of doping control’.

The allegation of tampering with any part of a doping
control can include trying to frustrate any aspect of an anti doping
investigation.

The allegations have reportedly been met with a denial
from Dr Freeman, who has requested a hearing in the case.

If convicted of the charges, the possible sanctions
available to UK Anti Doping include a four-year ban.

However, while Freeman now faces a second investigative
process, no findings have been made against him.

At the ongoing General Medical Council fitness to
practice hearing Freeman has admitted he ordered a testosterone product that
was delivered to the National Cycling Centre in Manchester in 2011. In total he
has admitted to 18 of the General Medical Council’s 22 charges.

However, he has strenuously and repeatedly denied the
most serious allegation; that he ordered the testosterone product for the
purposes of doping athletes.

Freeman claims former British Cycling and Team Sky coach
Shane Sutton bullied him into ordering the product so he could treat his, Shane
Sutton’s, erectile dysfunction.

Sutton denies the claims, including that he suffers from
erectile problems. He has said Freeman is not reliable and has continually changed
his version of accounts.
