The organisers of the National Road Championships have issued a brief statement confirming the road and time trial (TT) title races will take place in Co Wicklow on the traditional championship weekend at the end of June.
The championships were due to be held in Munster this year but when Clonmel CC ran into financial problems it was forced to step away from organising them.
No other club and course could be found in Munster on which to promote the championships and so the promotion of the events was thrown open to every club in Ireland.
Dublin-based Orwell Wheelers stepped in at the last moment to take on the job, which has become a major undertaking in recent years.
They announced the championships would begin from the Phoenix Park.
Last week it emerged the park was no longer available because of the security associated with the visit of US vice president Joe Biden to Dublin.
But today, it looks like the home of the championships for 2016 is settled for once and for all, with Wicklow confirmed as the venue.
Orwell Wheeler released the following statement on its website confirming the news, though neither the club nor Cycling Ireland has provided more detailed information about the course.
