The National Road Championships, which get underway next
Thursday, are set to be broadcast by RTÉ 2. A highlights show will be aired at
5pm on Tuesday, October 5th, and the programme will also be available on the
RTÉ Player.
The national broadcaster will cover the TT title races,
which open the championships next Thursday, as well as the elite women’s and
men’s road races, planned for next Saturday and Sunday.
The races are being run in Co Wicklow this year and are
being organised by the Leinster Promotions Group, made up of personnel from a
number of clubs.
The highlights programme will be produced by InForm Sport
Media, which is owned by Irish Eurosport commentator Declan Quigley and has
been involved in cycling productions in Ireland for many years.
Cliona O’Leary, deputy head at RTÉ TV Sport said the
channel was very pleased to broadcast the main Irish cycling championships of
the year.
“The Cycling Ireland national road championships is a
marquee event in the Irish women’s and men’s road racing season and we look
forward to presenting the best moments from what promises to be a great few
days of racing in Wicklow,” she said.
Scott Graham, Cycling Ireland’s marketing and communications
manager, described the championships as “one of the highlights of the Irish sporting
calendar”.
“Ireland’s top international and domestic riders will
descend on county Wicklow for what promises to be an exciting few days of
racing. We are delighted to be bringing cycling fans a full highlights
programme which will be broadcast on RTÉ2.”
