Chris McGlinchey piles on the pain up Codd's Lane with Nicolas Roche digging in behind.
National Championships hero Chris McGlinchey
Having attack on a downhill section before the climb on the penultimate lap of the National Championships course, Chris McGlinchey would go on to take the silver medal.
Conor Dunne (Aqua Blue Sport) was leading solo at the time, less than one minute up the road and with about 25km remaining.
ChainReactionCycles man McGlinchey told journalist Shane Stokes, in the clip below, he struggled in the early part of the race.
However, as the 179km contest in Wexford progressed he came good as others began to feel the pinch.
He would be caught from behind by Ryan Mullen (Cannondale-Drapac) and working together they would catch Dunne.
And while Mullen would pull clear on the top of the climb on the last lap and ride solo to win, McGlinchey shook off Dunne.
The Irish amateur finished on his own for 2nd place, with Dunne 3rd.
He spoke to Shane Stokes about his race, his preparation and the possibility of getting a contract, saying he would only do that of the opportunity was the right one.
