National road race champion, Mel Spath has left the Danish squad she signed for in the off season in favour of a new UK team.

Having penned a deal in November with the Danish pro squad Team Rytger which counts Danish national champion Kamilla Sofie Vallin among its ranks, the 32-year-old Irish international will now ride for UK squad Wyndy Milla Bespoke Cycling for the remainder of the year.

The team announced the new signing in a brief statement this evening. Spath will ride her first race for them at the Tour Series in Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow, Tuesday.

“We're super excited to announce the mid-season signing of Irish national champion Melanie Spath just in time to do battle at the Tour Series,” the team statement said.

“At 32 and at the top of her game she is the perfect final piece of the jigsaw bringing valuable strength and experience to the team all aged between 18 and 23.”

Her first race will be broadcast on ITV4 at 10.30pm on Wednesday.

We’ll catch up with Spath in the next day or two for a chat about her new move.
