The traditional curtain-raiser for the Munster road race season, the Lacey Cup, was due to take place this Sunday but has now been cancelled just days out from the event.

The fixture, which would have involved a handicapped main event for A1-A2-A3 riders and a separate A4 race, was being promoted by local club Tralee Manor West Bicycle Club. However, in a statement on Thursday afternoon the club confirmed the race had been cancelled.

It added the race would not be held this season, ruling out any rescheduling to a later date. The club was working its way through the entries for this weekend's races with a view to refunding those riders who had already entered.
