MotoGP champ dies after collision with car while cycling
The Red Bull Honda rider was out cycling in Italy following his 12th-placed finish in the World Superbike Championship race at Imola last week.
Former MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden has died from head injuries sustained in a cycling crash in Italy last week.
The 35-year old American suffered “serious cerebral damage". He had been in an induced coma since he was in collision with a car on the Rimini coastline while out on a training ride.
And after several days in intensive care the hospital where he had been announced his tragic death today.
“The medical college has confirmed the death of the patient Nicholas Patrick Hayden, recovering from Wednesday May 17 in a hospital intensive care unit of Cesena Bufalini as a result of serious multiple injuries occurred on that date.”
Hayden, who won the MotoGP championship in 2006, had been competing in the World Superbike Championship with Red Bull Honda.
Nicky Hayden was best known for his MotoGP title in 2006 when he pipped Italian favourite Valentino Rossi.
