Nicolas Roche and Sam Bennett have both entered the Cycling Ireland National Road Championships, which take place in Co Wicklow next week.
Neither Roche (Team DSM) nor Bennett (Deceuninck-QuickStep) are part of the Irish team at the World Road Championships in Flanders this week. However, they have entered the Irish championships and now look set to do battle for the coveted Irish title next week.
Bennett is coming back from injury. He also withdrew from the Worlds team, saying a race over 260km was perhaps a bit too much for him at this stage. However, he has now entered the nationals and hopefully that goes according to plan, and his trade team does not have other plans for him.
Roche has been Irish road race champion twice – 2009 and 2016 – and was TT champion in 2007 and 2016. Bennett won the road race crown in Derry two years ago.
