Some races which are due to be held at the end of the
month are now being cancelled due to the coronavirus but others set for this
weekend are still on course to be run.

Newry Wheelers last night, Wednesday, issued a statement
saying the John Haldane Memorial planned for this Sunday was still going ahead.

But the club has just announced - late on Thursday afternoon - that its racing is now cancelled; the John Haldane Memorial joining the growing list of cancelled events.

At the time of writing the Michael Shiels Memorial in
Knockaderry, Co Limerick, and Rás Naomh Finian in Moyvalley on the
Kildare-Meath border that had both been planned for this Saturday were
cancelled.

That means the only race being promoted in Ireland on
Saturday is the Markievicz Cup in Coolaney, Co Sligo.

On Sunday, the Newbridge GP in Newbridge, Co Kildare is now called off, as is the John Haldane Memorial.

But the Foyle CC Youth Races in Eglinton, Derry, were still going ahead.

Looking further ahead to St Patrick’s Day next Tuesday,
the races that were planned for Carrick-on-Suir are off and the events planned
for Burt, Co Donegal, are also called off.

Carlow Road Cycling Club has also decided to call off the
Des Hanlon Memorial. It was due to be held on March 29th.

A number of leisure events that had been planned for this
Sunday are also off. They include BCC Camlough’s CCC Spring 60 and Islandeady
Cycling Club’s Brendan Heneghan Memorial Cycle.

Cycling Ireland and stickybottle will offer further
updates, including on events set for this weekend that are still going ahead as
of today.

In relation to the events that are called off, many of those may be run again later in the season. That will likely depend on how long it takes for the peak of coronavirus cases to be reached and how many races are cancelled in the period ahead.
