The job that attached this engine to this mountain bike looks well dodgy. Would you take to the open roads on this?
Bicycle with dodgy engine seized by Garda
Gardai around Ireland on the look-out for illegal modified bicycles have seized another ‘DIY motorbike’.
This time the seizure was made in south Dublin. The mountain bike had been fitted with an engine and fuel tank.
And the entire modification job looks very dodgy indeed.
Garda have already warned members of the public that if an engine is fitted to a bicycle it becomes a ‘vehicle’ under the law.
It means such bikes are treated like motorbikes and they must be taxed, insured and have an NCT. And those riding/driving them must always wear a motorbike helmet.
The bikes in question would never pass an NCT. And that means they bikes have been rendered illegal in the Republic.
This bike was seized in Dundrum, south Dublin. And other seizures have also been made in recent months, including one on a motorway in Carlow.
When it a bicycle not a bicycle? When it has an engine. Then you need tax, insurance, NCT & a helmet-unlike the guy we stopped in Dundrum. pic.twitter.com/IWdo2wHPP8
