Miguel Ángel López's shock departure from La Vuelta last year is set to feature in the next season of the NetFlix documentary about his former team, Movistar.
While it was not clear there would be a third series, and it was widely reported it would not happen, Movistar has confirmed a third series was recorded during last season and will air in spring.
And while all of the episodes of the first two seasons of the series, The Least Expected Day, have been compelling viewing, the López controversy looks set to dominate the third series. The Colombian was sitting 3rd overall but stopped with just one stage remaining after he missed a split and then had a dispute with the team about whether he could chase the group or not.
An official trailer, below, shows López sat down with the documentary crew during the winter to give his side of the story, even though his contract was ended early last autumn and he has since moved back to Astana.
Another section of the documentary that has emerged on Twitter, also below, shows the exact moment López quit La Vuelta and the reaction of staff in the team; none of which we have seen before.
“Well, I’m getting off here,” López is heard saying over race race as he climbs of his bike out of the blue. “It’s been a pleasure, gentlemen.”
The footage also shows the shocked reaction of team staff, with Movistar boss Eusebio Unzué saying "it was never going to be a great decision".
