Dublin teens who robbed tourist bike were "messing with the lads"

One of the convicted men given a suspended sentence has 16 previous convictions and is currently serving a jail term for other offences.

Two teenagers who stole a special four-seater bike designed for sightseeing tourists have received jail terms.

However, the prison sentences were suspended in full.

Aaron Reville (18) from Snowdrop Walk, Darndale, north Dublin, and 19-year-old Keith Delaney of Templeview Ave, Clare Hall, north Dublin, told the court they were “messing” when they stole the bike.

Their solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said they were "messing with the lads" and got "carried away".

Judge Patricia McNamara imposed a four-month jail term on Delaney but suspended it for 18 months.

However, the court was told he was currently serving a jail term for unrelated offences and is set to spend his second Christmas in prison.

Reville was sentenced to three months but it too was suspended.

The court was told he had no substance abuse problems and that he was remorseful over the four-seater bike theft last August.

The bicycle was stolen at Malahide Castle in north Dublin where it is used by tourists to cycle around the castle grounds on sightseeing tours.

The teenagers cycled the bike out of the castle grounds but abandoned it less that 1km down the road.

They were seen by the owner taking the machine and the alarm was raised and the bike recovered undamaged immediately.
