The Junior Tour of Ireland is set to be sponsored by Quanta Capital, the business founded and owned by former international rider Mel Sutcliffe.
He is a former member of Irish Road Club, whose officials have promoted the Junior Tour of Ireland - now a premier international junior stage race - for decades.
News that Sutcliffe's company, which passed the €1 billion asset valuation mark three years ago, is to sponsor the race is a very positive development, especially coming in a difficult post-pandemic environment for cycling.
Many major races, both in Ireland and abroad, have endured difficult searches for sponsors in a bid to secure the funding they need to stay on the road. However, the involvement of Quanta Capital, with a cycling-friendly owner, is very good news for the Junior Tour of Ireland.
Quanta Capital describes itself as "an investment fund with a focus on real estate, private equity, debt purchasing and restructuring, corporate finance and commercial lending".
Sutcliffe previously owned the Eurocycles-Eurobaby business which also sponsored the Junior Tour of Ireland for several years. The organisers of the race announced the new backing on Quanta Capital on social media on Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to announce that Quanta Capital is joining us as a new sponsor for the Junior Tour of Ireland this year," the race organisers said.
"Thank you, Quanta Capital, for believing in our mission and helping us continue to inspire young cyclists across Ireland."
This year's Junior Tour of Ireland takes place from Tuesday July 9th to Sunday July 14th. As well as backing the race, Quanta Capital also previously supported the Emerald Fund, a development vehicle for young Irish cyclists.
