A Cork-based medical device company has worked with the IDA and Cork County Council to build a 2km stretch of a new greenway.
Stryker, a global company with a base in Co Cork, contributed the land on which the new stretch of greenway is built at the IDA business park in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
The 2km section, which has just opened, will be part of the larger greenway in Cork city and county that will link Dunkettle to Midleton.
Ray O’Connor, head of regional development at IDA Ireland, said part of the authority's strategic focus is to support green investment among its clients.
"We are very pleased to collaborate with Stryker and Cork County Council on this cycleway," he said at the opening of the new greenway section.
"Stryker’s commitment to the region and their investment back into the local area highlights that their roots are firmly in Ireland, as an employer but also as an active member of the local and national community.”
Mag O’Keeffe, Stryker's vice president of manufacturing for neurovascular, said her company's involvement in the project was about working with other stakeholders to make a contribution to the community.
“It is imperative that we build effective relationships to achieve a greater positive impact and reach than we ever could working on our own. This cycleway resulted from that approach,” she said.
“We were delighted to work with IDA Ireland, our neighbouring companies and Cork County Council to develop this section of an alternative transport corridor.”
