Irish rider Kevin McCambridge is getting back on track after coming down with Covid-19 in France just weeks after arriving and settling in with his new team.
While the teenager was forced to miss some racing while
isolating at a hotel after his diagnosis, he has told stickybottle he has just
been declared Covid-19 negative and was looking forward to resuming his plans.
Having been stuck in a hotel room waiting out the virus in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, McCambridge said he had been cleared to leave after test results on Tuesday and was glad to return to normal life.
“I was stuck in Rians in a hotel,”
he said. “I was in the team house when I found out I had it but thankfully I
didn’t spread it to anyone else.
“I’m back training again, which is great and I go to Spain tomorrow to race in Girona on Saturday," he explained. He added when he was ill he felt "drained of energy" but had no other symptoms.

It has been a testing time for McCambridge in recent
weeks since he took himself off to France, where he is riding for AVC Aix En
Provence.
Having gone on a training camp with ProContinental outfit Team Delko he then suffered food poisoning followed by his Covid-19 diagnosis - after seeking a test when he felt very weak while training.
However, he has still taken in some racing in the region
where is based and also in French Basque and Italy; reporting
a much higher level than he is used to.
In the period before he was hit by sickness he got up the road in Les Boucles de l’Essor, a 116km ‘elite nationale’ event in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, and won the sprints jersey.
McCambridge (19) claimed silver in the U23 TT at the
National Road Championships last year behind Ben Healy.
And in the road race he was on the attack with the pro
riders at the head of the race before eventually finishing in 6th place. He
also won the junior TT crown in 2019 and represented Ireland at the Worlds in
Yorkshire in both the TT and road race.
