Irish rider Matt Teggart is returning to the pro ranks next year after securing a contract with UK-based Continental team WiV SunGod.

It is a very established squad, racing as Canyon dhb SunGod this year, and already includes Irish international Rory Townsend in its ranks.

As Townsend has decided to continue in the pro peloton in 2022, after reconsidering his decision to step away, it means he will be team mates with Teggart next year.

While the UK team races a full schedule of events in Britain, it also travels frequently to mainland Europe and Asia for races, meaning Teggart will get plenty of chances to race against the biggest teams in the sport.

Teggart, one of the best elite riders in the country, previously raced with a number of Continental teams including An Post-Chainreaction, Team Wiggins and Evo Pro Racing.

A former stage winner and yellow jersey at Rás Tailteann, he has also regularly represented Ireland on the biggest stages, including at this year's Europeans.

He was selected for the Worlds in Imola last year until Covid-19 rules meant he could not take up his place on the team. However, he should get plenty of chances for more green jerseys in the years ahead.

We'll catch up with Teggart for an interview in coming days.
