Masters, junior, youth Irish National Cycling Championships
As the end of the domestic road racing season beckons some of the most important events of year are still ahead for some categories.
There is a blitz of national championships events coming up for youth, junior and Masters riders.
First up is the Irish National Cycling Championships for youths in Carlow this weekend; August 26th and 27th. They are being promoted by Carlow Road Cycling Club.
Registration is still open, though it closes at midnight tonight so you better be quick. Anyone still looking to register can do so by following this link.

There are separate TT, criterium and road races for boys and girls; from U11 to U16.
The TTs get underway on Saturday morning followed by the road races in the afternoon. And the racing concludes with the criterium events on Sunday morning.
This year the junior women’s national championships road race and TT are being run on conjunction with the youth championships.
It was to run, as traditional, with next month’s Juniors-Masters-A3 championships weekend.
Because next month’s fixture clashes with An Post Rás n mBan, it was announced two weeks ago that the junior women’s title races would be brought forward to this weekend.
Consequently, the junior women’s TT and road race will both be run off this Saturday.
The men’s Irish National Cycling Championships junior TT and road race, along with the Masters TT title races and A3 road race, take place in Maghera in two weeks.

First up are the Masters (M40, M50 and M60) TTs and the junior men’s TT on Saturday, September 9th.
Sign-on is at Gazebo at Grillagh picnic area from 9.30-10.30am with the first rider off at 11:01am.
The course is 20.5 miles and starts approximately two miles on the Coleraine side of Maghera.

The following day – Sunday, September 10th – the A3 and junior men’s road races sign-on takes places in Walsh’s Hotel from 9.15-10.15am.
And the riders will assemble for 11am start times; the two events with slightly staggered times.
The total race distance for each race is 65.5 miles, including a mountain top finish at Coolnasillagh Mountain.
Each race will cover five laps around Tobermore, Desertmartin, Magherafelt and Tobermore.
On the last lap the race will take the Lisnamuck Road to Five Mile Straight crossroads.
It will finish at the top of the Coolnasillagh Mountain, adjacent to the Glenshane Pass. The course on Strava is can be found by following this link.
