Mark Downey angry at Commonwealth Games crash

Having expressed his confidence ahead of his points race at the Commonwealth Games, Mark Downey is out of the contest.

The Banbridge CC man, riding on the road for Team Wiggins this year, was in action for Northern Ireland in a heat for the event.

However, with 22 laps to go a ride came from higher up on the track and cut across him while passing. The move took down clean off his bike.

And while he remounted and got back into the race the commissaires ruled the crash was a "racing incident".

And that meant Downey didn't get a pass into the final, which happens in cases where a rider has been impeded unfairly.

Downey took to Twitter later to share stills of the incident, below; clearly not happy with how it had been treated by the officials.

"You tell me who's in the wrong ? This manoeuvre cost me a ride in tonight's points race final here in the Commy Games....

“Apparently this is a racing incident. I think otherwise. Gutted is an understatement.”

That's a big chance gone for Mark Downey; a rider who has won medals galore at the European Championships and Wold Cups.

He was one of the favourites to take a medal on the track for Norther Ireland at these Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

We'll have more later.
