Mark Cavendish might join Sam Bennett at Deceuninck-QuickStep next year after team boss Patrick Lefevere said he would speak to the British rider about the possible move.
Cavendish, who rode for the team for three years from 2013, is currently at the end of a one-year contract with Bahrain-McLaren and has indicated he would like to continue next year though has not contract yet.
The 30-time Tour de France stage winner was emotional at Gent Wevelgem recently, breaking down in a post-race interview after suggesting it may have been his last race.
Since then he has ridden both Scheldeprijs and yesterday's Tour of Flanders and Lefevere has suggested he was mulling over signing the 35-year-old, but was not yet sure what he would do.

"It's no secret that he would like to return to our squad – free, or free in a manner of speaking," Lefevere wrote in his regular column in Het Nieuwsblad.
"I've been thinking about it: what could he bring to the team. What would he be able to offer the younger riders?
"Right now my heart says 'yes' but my mind says 'no'. In any case, I won't make a decision until I have spoken to Mark personally.
"What he brings to cycling – and could bring to our team, in particular – is great. Respect is the least he deserves."
